IBM Edge 2015 — A Case Study
IBM Systems is the server hardware and software division of IBM, including IBM Cloud and other market segments. The Edge conference was a result of merging three previously distinct events aimed at corporate clients (Executive Edge), software and hardware professionals (Technical Edge) people and sales representatives (Winning Edge). We had the entirety of the Sands Expo in Las Vegas, with over 150 classrooms/meeting rooms, a keynote hall, an expo hall (Solution Center) and a large ballroom for meals and evening events. In this case I was given a base design from corporate (the diamond cloud), but created the design guidelines around using it. I personally created the sign plan in conjunction with the client and venue, designed the print files from start to finish, and managed print production for everything shown here except most of the exhibit booths within the expo. We also produced the program guide, badges, advance promotional flyers and digital ads, and other related items. In fact, the badge shells and small sign inserts were printed at my home office!
Removable panels and arrows allowed for quick response to changing needs and permitted relocation of the signs as needed.

82 meter boards were designed and produced for the event. I personally developed the sign plan based on the event plan, and placed all of these where needed.

We took advantage of numerous venue-owned digital signs. Our signs and maps were color-keyed by venue level.

Full on-site services
I was on site to supervise professional installation by our print partners, work with the venue on their requirements (video, mandatory in-house installers) and to personally see that all small signs were placed properly, including all sign inserts, with the help of a team I hired.
Developing design guidelines
Planning started with developing the event branding. The diamond cloud element was provided by IBM's agency of record, but I developed the usage guidelines for the event and submitted it for approval. A different vendor had the contract for the Solution Center and implemented this plan to allow for a seamless experience.
