Conference Work
For the past ten years, I have grown from a general print graphic designer to a specialist in conference graphics. In this time, I have also had a growing hand in assisting in the planning of these events, which include from 50-5000 attendees. I am seeking to move more into the conference and trade show planning business, while keeping my hand on the design side of things. My primary client, a major division of a Fortune 100 business, is cutting back on these events, so I am seeking additional clients for event graphics, and would consider a full-time position with the right company and opportunity.
As you will see in my portfolio, I have branded some of the largest conference venues in the US, and have worked remotely for events around the world. I have learned to make great things happen within venue guidelines while making the client look great. I have been involved in all aspects of the design, from concept and development, to file setup and proofing, to press checks and delivery, and to installation supervision and on-site services during the event.

Special conference solutions:
- Developed a new way of badging that saved the client money, enhanced flexibility, and satisfied multiple stakeholders' needs for identifying multiple overlapping identification needs.
- Implemented a client-owned digital kiosk system for signage to reduce costs long-term and improve the ability to change out messaging throughout the week, including change announcements and evolving messaging.
- I attend most of the medium and large conferences to change out meter-board and easel-back signs as needed, carrying with me the equipment to print 13x19 "sign patches" to handle any changes professionally — no more taped-up notes on the beautiful signs! I also assist with the registration counters on opening day, help with crisis mitigation, and help wherever I am needed. (Joe needs color-coded stanchion signs on 34 tables for a sudden meeting? No problem! I brought two printers on site just for this!)

Customer evaluation of my services |
I would not want to do my event without this supplier. They know the conference business and understand what is important, how to save money, how to be on time, etc. They have an in-depth understanding of our conference business, as it relates to the services they provide. They are deliver high quality products and are very good about bringing potential issues to my attention, well in advance. They demonstrate flexibility with regards to their printing schedule and do excellent design and printing. This is a very pro-active supplier, always looking for ways to improve, anticipating issues and recommending solutions, careful of the budget and deadlines. The graphics person is AMAZING with his ability to deliver incredibly high quality within deadlines even when we are late providing initial content. |
Other Work
- Direct mail design, including moving legacy customer to EDDM
- Shopping Center marketing and customer events such as tree lightings with Santa and his live reindeer, Easter egg hunts, community Halloween events, etc.
- Full turnkey design management for independent restaurants, including logos, signage, POP materials and menu design
- Managed conversion of in-store marketing materials for two leading quick serve restaurants from offset printing and shipping everything to every store to digital print-on-demand with store profiling so that every store would receive only the versions and items that were useful. This resulted in large savings in both shipping and production, which more than made up for the increased cost per item.
Just for Fun
- Created and manage a non-profit organization to take care of a 15-acre abandoned and active cemetery in my former city of East Point, Georgia. Using only donations and volunteers, beginning 22 years ago, we have cleared brush from almost the entire Cemetery, restoring access to nearly 10,000 graves. It is now regularly maintained, and we are digitizing all the records to make a permanent archive for future generations to find their loved ones. HillcrestEastPoint.org
